In 2014, our founder, Molly Garat, ventured to New Delhi on a business trip. Like many, she fell in love with the bustling markets, the kind, bighearted people, the colorfully bold prints, and the overall vibrance of India. She left feeling inspired, wanting to collaborate with artisans in an effort to bring their work and craftsmanship to those who appreciate such unique and thoughtfully-made products.
Over the years, while working as a corporate communications consultant, Molly kept going back to the idea of starting a brand of her own. Growing up with entrepreneurial parents working in the creative field, she was naturally drawn to the concept of conceiving and launching her own project. She’s also passionate about the process and working with people who are enthusiastic about innovation and minimizing waste. After India, she couldn’t quite shake the idea of merging European designs with traditional Indian hand-crafted textiles and eco-friendly cottons.
As she started to develop the brand, she came across a still life of a basket of pears (‘poire’ in French). The colors, shape, and connection to nature resonated, hence 10 years after that first trip to India, Maison Poire was born.
Our collections are continuously inspired by the city of Paris, which Molly has called home for 11 years, and its art, design, and culture. From the minimalist aesthetic of Brancusi’s studio to the casual elegance of everyday life, this is the essence of Maison Poire.
